South Korea’s Ruling Party Formally Seeks Crypto Tax Delay

South Korea’s ruling Democratic Party has formally moved to delay the country’s planned crypto gains tax, with lawmaker Kim Min-seok arguing that a digital-asset framework should be enacted before taxation begins. A two-year postponement is under discussion, though the legal start date remains Jan. 1, 2027. The push matters because it signals that the ruling party wants market rules in place before taxing crypto investors, potentially reshaping the timeline for one of Asia’s largest retail trading markets. What to watch next is whether the National Assembly codifies the delay or leaves the 2027 start date intact.
